One of their most popular tours is a day tour which includes Powerscourt Gardens and Glendalough. The closest public transportation to the estate is the 185 and 44 bus services which take visitors to Enniskerry village in County Wicklow. At approximately 19km , take exit 7 for Bray south, Enniskerry, Powerscourt Gardens. Turn left at roundabout, over flyover and rejoin N11 heading north. Take the road to the left of the clock tower, in the village square, continue up steep hill for 600m. Powerscourt entrance is on the right-hand side opposite church entrance.

He and his wife own a large portfolio of rented homes including one next to the Cottage Home, an attractive Victorian building that has been run on a charitable basis for the past 125 years. The famous hotel was built in 1715 by Folliott Wingfield of Powerscourt and has been run over the years as a hotel, restaurant, and bar. The architectural report commissioned by the owners of the Powerscourt Arms claimed that there was potential for 30 apartments and duplex units on the hotel site as well as three commercial units with a floor area of up to 735sq m (7,911sq ft).

The site was a strategic military position for the Anglo-Normans in the 12th century, and by 1300 the Le Poers had built a castle there. In 1609 the land was granted to Richard Wingfield, Marshall of Ireland. The Powerscourt Arms is an intimate country house that has been providing quality service since 1715. Powerscourt Estate
Powerscourt is certainly worth travelling to see if you are in the area. Experience one of Ireland’s top tourist attractions and a destination like no other. Beyond the entrance gates to the Estate you enter a world full of beauty with 47 acres of gardens to explore, a magnificent House to dine and shop in. An award winning Distillery and golf club and if you want to stay longer you can even stay at Powerscourt Hotel. You can book a day tour with VIP buses, and join a group from Dublin City centre at the corner of O’Connell Street and Eden Quay from Wednesday to Saturday from 9 am, arriving back in Dublin city at 6.30pm. The first stop on the tour is Powerscourt Estate followed by other key attractions in Wicklow.
Powerscourt Estate, House & Gardens
Take in the breath-taking beauty of the house’s elegant facade and enjoy the jaw-dropping views from the Avoca Terrace CafĂ© as you indulge in a spot of delicious dining. When you’ve taken in the grandeur and luxury of the mansion, maybe sample leading Irish design in one of our exciting boutiques. Also in Co Wicklow, 17 acres of housing land at Ashtown, Roundwood village, were sold at auction for €5.9 million.

It finally reopened in 1996 but it is not as impressive as it once would have been at the height of Powerscourt Estate’s glory. The awarded family seat of the Viscounts Powerscourt, the estate has been owned by the Slazenger family, founders and former owners of the Slazenger sporting goods business, since 1961. It is a popular tourist attraction, and includes Powerscourt Golf Club, an Avoca Handweavers restaurant, and an Autograph Collection Hotel. Powerscourt Estate prides itself on the welcome we offer to all our visitors and being an accessible destination for everyone. Powerscourt Estate is located just 20 minutes south of Dublin, or 40 minutes from the airport and there are many transportation options available to reach us.

The estate is found just outside of the Enniskerry village, which can be reached from Dublin via the N11. If you prefer to take public transportation, Enniskerry is connected to Dublin along the 185 bus route. The estate grounds are extensive, and those willing to venture away from the gardens will find the Powerscourt Golf Club, which has two 18-hole courses. The interiors have been converted into a kind of Irish craft mall, full of small shops selling handmade items from around the country. Even if the original interior has been lost, the Palladian mansion still makes for a postcard-worthy backdrop set amongst the manicured hedges of the garden. Due to the tragic fire in 1974, the once-beautiful mansion itself was closed to visitors for many years.
This is the perfect location to unwind after a day of walking in Wicklow. Like the Enniskerry hotel site, any plans to build additional homes beside the listed building are likely to be opposed by local residents. Turtle Bunbury also tells us that the 6th Viscount Powerscourt purchased Luggala, also in County Wicklow, in 1840, from the “financially challenged” La Touche family. We will come across the La Touch family when I write about Harristown, another Section 482 property.
Hassett had been guiding €5 million for the site which can accommodate more than 100 new homes. The 9th Viscount followed in the family’s military tradition and served in WWII and was captured and became a prisoner of war. His wife and children moved to Bermuda during the war and returned to Powerscourt afterwards but their marriage fell apart, and Mervyn Patrick sold Powerscourt. Richard and Amelia’s son Richard 4th Viscount Powerscourt was brave enough to vote against the Act of Union in 1800, upsetting his neighbours.
The imposing Palladian mansion was home to noble families for centuries, before being destroyed by fire and rebuilt in the 20th century. Regular bus service from Powerscourt to the waterfall was discontinued in 2005, though during the high summer season, intermittent bus services are still available. While the distance is not prohibitive, walking can be dangerous, as the road is narrow, and lacks a shoulder for long stretches. You can also book with VIP Tours where you enjoy the comfort of a luxury coach as you journey through The Garden of Ireland, visiting Powerscourt Gardens with a friendly and knowledgeable guide. The dramatic waterfall at Powerscourt is the highest in Ireland, set in beautiful parkland rich in local wildlife. With great amenities and loads of space to walk or play, it provides the perfect setting for a picnic and a stroll to enjoy the wonders of the natural world.
We recommend that these are booked in advance through our reception team to avoid any disappointment. Unfortunately, access to our first floor shops is not possible in a wheelchair as there are several steps. Set amidst one of the most scenic and historic estates in Ireland, the Powerscourt Hotel is a 200-room resort showcasing Palladian-style architecture and offering guests a host of amenities. Two championship-calibre golf courses on the grounds, a 30,000-square-foot luxury spa by ESPA and a signature restaurant are among this Ireland luxury hotel’s distinctive attractions.
The Slazenger family, living in the house at the time of the fire, moved into a section of the wing that was not destroyed by the fire. Nowadays inside is a shopping mecca and lovely Avoca cafe, with a growing exhibition about Powerscourt estate itself. My family has been visiting Powerscourt estate since I was a child. The house was occupied by the Slazenger family in 1974 when the fire broke out on the top floor, leaving the main building completely destroyed.
